Something Wicked This Way Comes!

Every good fairy tale needs an equally evil villain to make the story great! I love that Disney comes up with a great villain but also gives them a sense of humor so that you are not going to have nightmares after watching the movie. Good will always prevail in a Disney movie. I am so bummed that I could not make it to Disney World for Friday the 13th when they released the villains. I LOVE Disney Villains. Enjoy this list of the most evil Villains Disney has given us!

13. Gaston - He makes the bottom of the list because he is not necessarily completely evil, but he is narcissistic. He is completely in love with himself and can't see why the most beautiful girl in town doesn't love him. He does go a step too far and tries to lock her father away in the loony bin and then goes after her friend the Beast. Now, can you blame him for trying to kill the Beast? He doesn't know that it is really just a cursed prince. Gaston also has a pretty sweet song about himself and a great manly singing voice.

12. Yzma - If you have not seen The Emperors New Groove you are missing out on a very funny and creative movie! Yzma is pretty evil. She wants to rule the kingdom but this dumb emperor, Kuzco, is running the show. He is a self absorbed royal who has Yzma as his confidant. Kuzco calls her "hideous beyond all reason". She also has the best sidekick named Kronk. He is just a large brainless guy who loves to cook and talk to squirrels. She is evil because she wants to kill Kuzco but ultimately fails and turns him into a llama on accident.

11. Jafar - Hypnotizes the Sultan, tries to marry the princess to become the Sultan, tries to kill Aladdin, and wishes to be an all-powerful Genie... that is pretty evil. He also turns into a disgusting snake. Pretty creepy if you ask me. His sidekick, Iago, is pretty funny though... I think that his rat tail beard also makes him look evil. He has a pretty sweet hat though and some pointy shoulders. I just love how Disney "dresses" their characters; it just adds so much to their personalities.

10. Captain Hook - I know that my dad would say that Captain Hook should be number one, but he is not the MOST evil character. I do LOVE Hook, but he is just a misunderstood pirate. He is trying to kill Peter Pan, but do you blame him? I mean, he cut off his hand and fed it to a crocodile? I'd be pretty mad as well. Now, Captain Hook does do some pretty shady things to get to Peter so he is definitely evil.

9. Ursula - She just creeps me out. A large octopus who turns mermaids into seaweed if they don't pay her back? GROSS! And, she eats worms... She is also pretty funny! I love her song, Poor Unfortunate Souls! It is so creative and tells just how evil she is. If you don't appreciate Ursula you should watch The Little Mermaid again!

8. Mother Gothel is the newest Villain Disney has given us. She steals a baby just so that she can look young forever. Who does that? Vanity is just so horrible! At least she does provide food, shelter, books, and paint to Rapunzel, otherwise she would be further up on the list. The one thing that puts her ahead of the other villains is that she tries to kill Flynn Rider. Don't mess with my Flynn Rider!

7. Jean Claude Frollo - Just mean! He takes on the disabled and tries to kill them because they are a "demon and should be sent back to hell." Thank goodness the priest comes and says "You can't run from the eyes. The eyes of Notre Dame." He also lusts after the gypsy Esmerelda and sings this creepy song called "Hellfire". I still can't believe that Disney put the word Hell into their movie. Frollo also wants to burn down Paris to get what he wants. PURE EVIL!

6. Hades - "He ran the underworld. He was as mean as he was ruthless. And that's the Gospel truth. He had a plan to shake things up. And that's the Gospel truth." Hades is in charge of the dead and just lets the souls swim around in circles for eternity. He wants to rule the world but then Hercules comes around and is the only one who can ruin Hades' dreams. I'm so glad Disney made this character funny! There are so many small jokes in this movie. Watch it again as an adult and you will catch so many more than when it came out in the 90s.

5. Lady Tremain - Better known as the Evil Stepmother from Cinderella. She gave all step parents a bad rap. Little girls were afraid of getting a stepmother in fear she would turn her into Cinderella. How horrible! Also, the stepsisters are pretty bad as well. If you are a stepmother please don't treat your new kids any differently! If only Lady Tremain embraced Cinderella she could have ended up living in the castle and being royalty. The characters in the park are pretty funny! One of the best character experiences to date.

4. Evil Queen/Old Hag - Talk about evil stepmother! "Mirror Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?" Whoa! Crazy lady talking! To be the most beautiful you must be beautiful on the inside as well as the outside. This lady is just plain CRAZY! Then, you send the huntsman out to kill Snow White and to bring you her heart?? OMG! Then, when you find out she is still alive you transform into an ugly hag and try to poison her with an apple. At least it teaches children not to take things from strangers.

3. Scar - Killing your own sibling is pretty sick; but then blaming it on your nephew, holy cow! He also has a pretty sweet song - "Be Prepared." Not much else to say about this evil character.

2. Cruella DeVille - Puppy Killer (nothing else needed)

1. Maleficent - Puts a curse on a baby that on her 16th birthday she will prick her finger and die! Then, she plots for 16 years how to find this child. When Prince Philip comes to rescue her she turns into a dragon and tries to kill him. She is the "mistress of all evil!"

A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes!

After the success of the princess blog everyone has been asking about the Disney Princes! I've been talking to many people about this and I'm trying to figure out how to rank them. Do I just base it on the movies? My favorite princes have been influenced by my experiences with them in the parks.

My sister and I had a discussion while being pampered. Her favorites are based on the movies. I had also mentioned that if we were looking at who voiced the character my favorite would without a doubt be Flynn Rider because I LOVE Zachary Levi. So, I have decided (after talking to Christy) to first rank the princes by favorites in the movies and then by character experience in the park then add their score together to get my top 10. I'll include where they ranked in each category :) Let me know who your favorite is!

FYI: If you will be joining me for my birthday (and other celebrations!) I will be getting my picture with my #1 pick ;)

Starting with number 10!

Snow White's Prince - Just like Snow White this prince ranks number 10. Although he is a good guy and saves Snow White he is a little creepy... Would you kiss a dead person? No thank you. He is also a little stalkerish... I mean... he is spying on Snow White while she is singing into a wishing well. I have not had the opportunity to meet this Prince in the parks and so he has a low score for being seen in the parks. He scored #8 for movies and #10 for the parks for an overall score of 18.

9: John Smith - Again, this guy is not a prince but he is a leading man in a film. I like John Smith because he wants to learn from the "Savages" on how to use the land. He is an explorer first and Disney makes him into a hero. He takes a bullet to save the Indiana Chief! I again have never met him in the parks but I like how he has a "stunt" in Fantasmic! His scores: Movie - 9 Parks - 8 for an overall score of 17.

8: There is a Tie for the number 8 spot so I am going to go with Peter Pan for this spot - So, he isn't a prince but he can fly and takes on Captain Hook. His best friend is a pixie and he has a magical shadow. He is friends with lost boys, Indians, pixies, crocodiles and much more. He is the epitome of imagination! When I went to Disney with my friends we had a GREAT meet and greet! We got some great pictures and had a lot of fun. Peter got a score of 10 for the movies (he isn't a prince) but a 4 for the parks which bumped him up to the #8 spot! His total score is 14.

7: Prince Philip from Sleeping Beauty - He really should be closer to the top but I have not had the pleasure to meet him in person! Disney, here is my plea to bring the Princes out for meet and greets! He has the best singing voice and can dance. He is also one of the bravest of the Princes, I mean he defeats a dragon (the mistress of all evil) and cuts through a forest of thorns! He is one of the "hottest" of the Disney males and doesn't mind that Aurora's dress magically changes color. His movie score is a 5 and his park score is a 9 which gives him a 14.

6: Prince Eric - One of my favorite movies has one of the best Princes. Eric just wants to be out at sea. Little did he know that he would meet a Mermaid who loved the human world so much. He would have had a higher score had the actor playing him been better... Our meet and greet with him was not fun. He was not personable at all! Way too shy... didn't even interact with us. Movie Score: 6 Park Score: 6 Total: 12

5: The Beast/Prince Adam falls into this middle place. He starts big and bad but learns to love someone. I've always enjoyed meeting the Beast at meet and greets. One time he danced with me which moved him up to the #5 spot overall. The "Tale as Old as Time" dance gets me every time. Movie Score: 7 Park Score: 3 Total: 10

4. Prince Charming - I think the fantasy of going to a ball and being chosen by the prince helped Prince Charming become the number 4 prince. He is classic Disney. Everyone is looking to be a Cinderella story. Movie Score: 4 Park Score: 5 Total: 9

3. Flynn Rider! - Zachary Levi would have made this prince #1 but I never got to meet Flynn Rider in the parks. I'm so sad about that. Gotta love a guy who would rather die than have the girl of his dreams imprisoned for her magical hair. He even took Rapunzel to see the "lights" and sings a very romantic song! Movie Score: 2 Park Score: 7 Total: 9

2. Prince Naveen - Yep, the Frog Prince is number 2. I loved him in the movie and I had the BEST experience with him in the parks. Whomever played him at Epcot in 2011 made my entire trip! Christy and I saw Naveen and Tiana and there weren't many people in line at all. He was incredibly out going and asked us if we knew how to dance the Charleston! He even took the time to teach us a few steps to the dance and made us feel special. Disney at its finest and most magical! Movie Score: 3 Park Score: 2 Total: 5

1. Is it really a surprise?? ALADDIN makes my top spot! I've loved him since 1994 when I found out that Steve from Full House voiced him for the movie. Then, as I grew up I fell for the underdog! He makes the number one spot for movie and for park experience. I have always had a GREAT experience meeting this guy, no matter who the actor is! The best was 2010 when I had a 10 minute interaction with him during spring break. We were talking about teaching and he made me feel important. Aren't we all just wanting that "fantasy" of disney magic when we are in the parks? I mean, how often do we get to meet our childhood favorites come to life? Movie Score: 1 Park Score: 1 Total: 2.

Alright, do you agree? Yes? No? Who do you think needs to be #1? Why?

Princess conversation!

Oh, did I ever tell you that I have the PERFECT job for me?? Yep that's right, I think the only other profession I could be in would be professional traveler. Even then, I would not get to have Disney conversations on a regular basis. Today (Friday September 6) in Kindergarten I overheard and then got to be part of the most fun conversation. It was at the end of the day and my students were working on a project about being "Unique." Some little girls started to talk about their favorite princesses and why they loved them.

This is a little of what I overheard:
"I like Ariel because she has fins."
"I love Sleeping Beauty because she sings pretty."
"Belle is my favorite because she likes to read and I love books."
"Tinkerbell is my favorite because she flies and makes others fly."
"Tinkerbell isn't a princess! She's a fairy."
"Oh, then, I think Tiana is my favorite because she cooks good."

I was in heaven! It also got me thinking, who is my favorite princess? I mean, you have the classic - Cinderella and then you have the more modern Rapunzel! So, here are my Top 10 Disney Princesses (all of whom I love to get pictures with when traveling to Disney!)

First, the honorable mention (non-princess)
Wendy - Although she is not a princess she does help Peter Pan and the Lost Boys. She is the voice of reason and makes the Lost Boys go to bed!

Now, the WORST princess would have to be Snow White! I mean, she is hated because she is the fairest of them all... but her singing voice is shrill and she eats apples from strangers. Now, I do like that she sings into a wishing well and poof! appears a charming prince! Ok, maybe I am just jealous of this animated character... Still, she is at the bottom of the list.
Now the Top 10!

10. Mulan - Although I don't consider her a princess, she did save China from the Huns. She saw that her father was physically unable to protect the country so she cut her hair and posed as a man. In the process, she saved a handsome member of the army and risked her life to save the Emperor. I would say she is pretty awesome. Also, she tried her best to impress the matchmaker and they wanted her to change. She is a good role-model to show young girls that if you stay true to yourself you win in the end.
9. Merida- I saw this movie a week after my mom passed away. I am a lot like Merida in a way because I fought with my mom and didn't really understand her and why she would make me dress a certain way. It was all for my own good. She was teaching me to respect myself. Merida's mom only wants the best for her but Merida turns her into a BEAR! Ah! I still really like this movie although it was reminiscent of Brother Bear...

8. Pocahontas - "You can own the Earth and still, all you'll own is earth until you can paint with all the colors of the wind." Disney took some creative spin with this story and added a love triangle! Of course Disney would have you rooting for John Smith and Pocahontas (even though the tribe gets small pox from the english men). I love the music and how Pocahontas follows her own path!
7. Tiana - A true southern girl! New Orleans is her home and she has worked for everything she has ever wanted. Then, poof! she kisses a frog prince and turns into a frog. That just shows you, who needs a "prince" in life? In the end, she does become a princess and gets everything she has wanted. I think I also love Tiana because I had a great Character "meet and greet" at Disney... one of the best memories from 2011 in Disney!

6. Jasmine - I love Jasmine because she wants to marry for love and not for money... that said... she is kinda stupid. I mean, you live in a palace and you can have everything you want. Aladdin even changes to a prince so that he can be with you and you are still complaining. But, Aladdin is in my top 5 Disney Movies and Jasmine is part of that movie.
5. Belle - What is better than reading books? So nice to see a princess who grew up respecting who she is and loving her family. I'm so happy she met a Beast and helped change who he is for the better. Kill em with kindness!

4. Sleeping Beauty - She has been one of my favorite princesses since I was a little girl. I always wanted my hair like hers and to be able to sing like her. And who wouldn't want a dress that can go from pink to blue and back again!

3. Cinderella - The original Princess! Her story is so sad... her mom dies, her dad remarries, and then her dad dies. Her horrible step-mother makes her a slave and then when she does all her chores and gets a beautiful dress her step-sisters tear it to shreds. Of course, she wins in the end because most Disney movies end happily ever after. I love visiting "her" kingdom!

2. Rapunzel - The newest of the Disney princesses! I don't have much to say except that she is a pretty cool princess.

And my favorite princess would be:

1. Ariel - She is the princess of 2 worlds. How much cooler is that? She also has the best hair - perfect under water and on land.
