Three States in One Day?

Day 9 Recap
States Traveled Through Today: 3
States Traveled Through so far on the trip: Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Washington DC (even though it isn't a state I'm counting it), Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey.
Capitols Visited on the Trip: 7 out of 14 (Atlanta, Columbia, Raleigh, Richmond, Nations Capitol, Annapolis, and Dover)

We started our day with packing up our car and heading out of DC. We hit NO traffic!! It was such a blessing. Once we got into Maryland we had to stop for some Starbucks. I think we have been to one in just about every state so far! You have to have your caffeine fix in the morning.

We only had to drive about 40 minutes to get to Annapolis; our first stop of the day. This is the capitol of Maryland. We stopped at the visitors center to get a map of this quaint town. Look how cute the streets are! Annapolis is pretty cool. I would describe their streets almost like suns and rays. There is a large circle in the middle with either a church or the capitol and then streets branch out like the rays of a sun. It was a little confusing but once we verified with the map we were set!

This is the old post office. It is not open anymore. We checked 2 times before figuring it out.
This was a really cute church which was in the middle of one of the circle streets.
I just thought this was neat.
You can see the water at the very end of the street.
Now for the main event of the morning! Maryland State House/Capitol!! #33
You can see me there with my sign. I'm very small!
It was a beautiful day in Annapolis. It was again very steamy!
The other side of the capitol. The security guard was very nice and chatted with us for a little bit. You need to show your ID when you visit this capitol.
It was very beautiful inside. There were no tours offered but there were a lot of things to read. It was also very small. Of course there was the Senate and the House of Representatives.
A cool fact about this Capitol is that George Washington resigned his commission in this capitol. They had a pretty official looking letter that was written by George Washington. I believe it was the original letter.

After we left the capitol we went to the Naval Academy. It was a pretty short walk and most of it was in the shade. You must go to the Naval Academy. You will need an ID and then you go through security. On your way you could see this cool house:

Here I am at the Naval Academy. There were a lot of boats on the water. The sky was incredible!

We headed to the church.

The church was so beautiful!

After spending 3 hours in this cute city we headed for Dover. Delaware. We went through a lot of farm land and even saw a horse and buggy with some Amish!
If you think Annapolis is small, think again! Dover is really small. I didn't even think we were at the capitol at first! Look how beautiful the building is! This is capitol #34!!! I can't believe I was in the first state!

Dover is very small in the capitol area. I would say it is about the size of 2 football fields. Start at the new capitol and then walk around the area. This is the back of the capitol.
The inside of the capitol was a bit dated. It was even smaller than Annapolis. Of course you have the senate and the house.
After you see the new capitol you must walk to the Old State house! It was so cute!! Here I am on the outside.
Back in the 1700s this was used as the courthouse on the first floor and the Legislative on the 2nd floor. There was a viewing area on the 3rd floor.

The Old State House is so small I can hold it up with one hand!
I can also touch the tip of the Old House with my pointer finger. Thanks Celeste for taking this!
This is the 3rd floor of the Old State House. I can touch the ceiling. I probably wouldn't have gone to watch government in the 1700s.

This bell was rung when the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4, 1776. In Dover they ring the bell every 4th of July 13 times to represent the 13 original colonies and they dress up in colonial clothing.

We said goodbye to Delaware and headed to our resting spot for the day. One more state to enter and that would be New Jersey. We stopped at the welcome center but it is not opened on Mondays.. So we had to use Porter-Potties.... BOO! We still got a few good shots of the welcome sign which was very important!

Well, that is it for the day. In case you were wondering... we only drove about 4 hours total today and still went through 3 different states and were in DC this morning. What a great day!!
